WHOEVER KNOWS HOW TO DO GOOD AND DOES IT NOT TO HIM IT IS SIN (by benaiah juma).
Jas 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
The word of God is encouraging us here to do good. Whenever you have an opportunity to do good, do it for the glory of God. The bible also warns us that if you know how to do good and you do it not, to you it is sin. Doing good is the only way that we can prove that we are the children of the most high God. The Lord Jesus Christ told us to do good not only to those who love us but also to our enemies. We should do good to those who love us and those who hate us.
If we do good to only those who love us, we will not be perfect as our father in heaven because the heathen love those who love them, and do good to their fellow wicked men. If we do good to only those who love us we will not be different from the heathen all over the world. God the almighty causes his rain to rain on the wicked and the good and also his sunshine to shine on the just and the unjust, so we as his children should resemble his likeness and his attributes by doing good to both the children of darkness and the children of light. God the almighty in his infinite mercy makes his rain to rain on the just and the unjust, he causes sun to bring forth light to the evil and the good, God makes every good thing to come down from heaven on this planet to both the righteous and the unrighteous. We as children of God should do the same by following the footsteps of our maker and do good to all men.
The following are some of the ways that you can do good to yourself, other people and the kingdom of God.
1. Helping the needy or the poor.
When you see a beggar somewhere help him or her. Do not ignore them. The word of God says that whoever shuts his eyes and ears from the cry of the poor it will bring him or her many curses. Share what you have with the needy and you shall have treasure in heaven. Do not hold or refuse to give someone who needs your help when you have what they need with you. If you help the needy you will acknowledge God and he will be pleased with you.
The word of God tells us that whoever mocks the poor mocks his creator, we should therefore not mock them but help them. The word of God tells us that whoever lends to the poor, lends to God and what he or she has given, the lord Jesus Christ will give him or her back because the poor are unable to pay them. When you help the poor you will be blessed by Jesus Christ. Faith without works is dead and works without faith is dead also, giving to the poor is an act of faith put into action.
2. Evangelizing to the lost.
The lost are everywhere in the society. People are destitute of the truth of the word of God. The lost are in danger of eternal damnation and we as christians should try and evangelise to the lost and God might give them repentance if they aknowledge the truth and accept to repent. We are supposed to teach people the word of God. It does not matter whether they accept it or reject it. Our commission is to get the word out and let the Holy Spirit reach them out with the gospel.
Our duty is to preach the word of God and the Holy Spirit will convict and save the lost. Paul told us that it would be terrible for him if he did not preach the gospel. Christians who refuse to preach are in danger of damnation. Christ Jesus doesn’t save people so that they can sit on their couch and argue doctrine all day. Jesus Christ saves people so that they can be filled with Holy Ghost and go out and preach the gospel of the kingdom of God. The damned always complain that they were not told the good news or they were not warned. So when we get the message out, if they change well and good and if they refuse to repent and give their lives to Jesus Christ, their blood will be on their heads.
3. Intercessory prayers.
Intercessory prayers are strong in the spirit realm. The word of God tells us to intercede both to the believers and the unbelievers because God desires that everyone of us should be saved. We should pray to God to strengthen the believers so that they can finish this race and enter eternal glory and also pray for the lost to be delivered from the grasps of the devil and his angels. Intercessory prayers is one of the weapons of our spiritual warfare. It is one of the essential elements of the armour of God.
4. Visiting the sick in the hospitals.
We should visit the sick and the disabled in the hospitals and encourage them by giving them financial aid if they are unable to pay their hospital bills. We should encourage them by telling them they will be alright and God cares for them and he has not forsaken them.
5. Visiting those in prisons.
The word of God tells us that the devil through his agents on this earth will throw some christians into prisons because of the gospel of Christ. We are taught by Jesus to visit believers that the devil has cast into prisons and encourage them to take heart. We should stand with other believers whom the devil has bound in prisons and if we do so we shall be encouraging one another in this mission of getting the word out to the world.
Only by doing good shall we be children of God. By our fruits you shall know us. Faith alone is vain. Our works should proclaim what we believe and what is in our hearts. Be blessed in Jesus name.
